How To Draw A Tiki Statue

As I said in a previous post, I got my son to help me pattern the tiki stuff I made for the last Retro Romp. And so here's is the method I worked out, so he could aid me. He picked the features and I drew them out. Its an incredibly easy system, and a great 1 to do with the kids and for just general doodling. The diagrams I've drawn are a fleck rough, only what the hey, yous'll get my drift. This is tribal stuff, the rougher the ameliorate.

And don't be fussing well-nigh the lines! Kids are constantly told in school to stay within the lines, and unfortunately this tin stay with us as adults. When i neighbours kid got upset because he coloured outside the line, I just gave him the big black marking and said, change the line. He was chuffed...

Pick out a nose, eyes, eyebrows and a brow from the following pics. These are essential features. Then choice out whatsoever other optional features, tongues, easily, feet, chests, etc.

Follow the diagrams below. I've drawn it out several times and then you can see the progress. You lot obviously don't have to do this. The grid is just a filigree for the essential features, and can be altered at will. I drew out the caput in pencil starting time and and so went over information technology in pen.

Stride 1:  Draw out a simple 2x4 grid.

Step 2: Draw the nose simply in a higher place the heart of the grid.

Footstep 3: Add in the eyes

Footstep 4: Add the oral cavity

Step 5: Add together the eyebrows

Stride 6: Add the forehead

Step seven: Add in whatsoever other optionals. Hither I have simply added hands

I and then re-drew the design larger, and simply added patterns using 2 thickness of blackness pen.

And so, there you have information technology! If you accept a go, ship me a choice/link, I'd love to see what other people come with.

Here's a few more designs I did using this method with the kids

I wanted the designs to take a more  proper Hawaiian experience, so I did a bit of research on traditional patterns. I came beyond Kapa, a blazon of bark cloth. Heres an interesting article, with a list of traditional dyes used in kapa making http://www.hawaiianencyclopedia.com/kapa-tapa-barkcloth.asp. Have at present added it onto my listing of places to go/things to make. a long list... Anyway, heres a few traditional patterns, if you lot want to add together them into yous tiki blueprint
